Lockheed Martin – Packaged Pumping System

The Lockheed Martin Plant in Palmdale, CA  needed additional pressure boosting of the central utility plant chilled water loop for an outlying building.   Because of the high security requirements in the building, the new equipment was required to be installed outdoors.  Burns & McDonnell and Associated Equipment Sales worked together for a solution using a Grundfos Packaged Pumping /Engineered System.

The engineered system included a 3-pump skid with vertical multistage pumps and integrated drives capable of 1,950 gpm of chilled water to the building.  In addition, the skid included an extended 10” header and valves to accommodate a fourth Grundfos pump for future expansion.  The pump skid came complete with three Grundfos variable speed pumps, isolation and check valves, energy reducing Grundfos controls, and 10” air separator with strainer in a complete outdoor rated enclosure with interior/exterior lights, exhaust fan, air inlet louver, thermostat and access doors.

With a single point power connection and 10” flanged suction & discharge chilled water piping connections terminating through the enclosure, the time to to install the chilled water system was reduced, the field labor was minimal and the impact to production extremely low.
